From the official business registries: the Colorado Secretary of State and the New York Department of State, both published as open data. We do not scrape private sites or buy lists. Every lead links back to the public record it came from.
Business filings are public record, and reaching out to a new business is ordinary prospecting. You are responsible for doing it lawfully: follow CAN-SPAM for email, the TCPA and state do-not-call rules for calls and texts, and any rules of your own profession. FirstFiling never provides phone numbers, and our outreach drafts are written to be respectful and easy to decline.
It depends on the state. Colorado publishes new filings daily, so a business that filed yesterday can be in your digest this morning. New York publishes its registry monthly, so New York leads arrive in a batch when the state releases them. The state coverage table above stays current as we add states.
The business name, entity type, filing date, addresses and the officer or agent names come straight from the state record and are shown as "Public record" on every lead. The industry label, sector, business kind, summary and signals are inferred by Claude (Anthropic's AI) from the name and filing details, with a confidence level. The score is computed from those guesses plus your profile. Treat the guesses as a starting point, not a fact, and check before you rely on them.
No. State registries do not publish them, and we do not buy or append contact data. You get the name, the mailing address on file, and the officer name when the state records one.
Yes, anytime, from Settings. There is no contract. If you cancel during the trial you are never charged.
